In a spectacular fraud, a 44-year-old self-proclaimed shaman, who is sought throughout Europe, was targeted by the police. Officials secured a treasure of millions in Maria Enzersdorf, Mödling district, consisting of cash, jewelry and valuables. In total, the investigators found more than 4.1 million euros, 2.1 million Swiss francs and $ 5,100 in a safe that was kept in a secret room of the house. The son of the suspect, 29 years old, is already in custody and is suspected of having acted as an accomplice with severe fraud and money laundering, as Vol.at reported.
The fraudster, known as "Amela", is accused of cheating several victims, including from Germany and Switzerland, to have cheated more than 730,000 euros. She let her victims told that due to alleged magical forces, she was able to break curses, which led to horrendous monetary claims for supposed "cleaning rituals". Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) described these actions as extremely insidious and explained that fraudsters often target older people. The current investigations are one of the largest actions that have ever been carried out by the Lower Austria State Criminal Police Office. The uncovering of such tricks is of crucial importance, since according to statistics in Austria over 64,000 fraud crime were registered, of which a significant part took place in the analog world.
