Winter service in Central Saxony: Everything ready for the frosty weeks!
Mittelachsen. The street masters in middle Saxony are about to get along for the winter service season! The salt stores are full in October and the technology has passed the fire -proof test in Hainichen. "The cold season is always a challenge for us," explains Dirk Schlimper, head of the road operating service and building management department. Thanks to the support of numerous companies from the region that help out with 32 vehicles and hard -working employees, they are prepared!
With an impressive fleet of 28 own vehicles, distributed over the championships in Freiberg, Brand-Erbisdorf, Mühlau, Hainichen, Rochlitz and Döbeln, the first shift begins at three in the morning and can last until 10 p.m. Schlimper adds: "If there are very bad weather situations, then it is also carried out." But that only happens in the exceptional cases!
Security on the street
The street administration looks after about 1,600 kilometers of district, state and federal roads and Schlimper appeals to all drivers to plan more time during winter conditions. "Our employees do a lot, but they can't be anywhere at the same time." A winter service round lasts around two and a half to three hours.
For the upcoming winter season, an incredible 10,400 tons of salt have already been ordered, while 6,700 tons are additionally stored. With modern moisture salt technology FS 30, the salt is moistened with a special solution when applying to minimize stray losses and improve liability on the road. In addition, innovative stray devices are used that automatically adapt the stray to the temperature of the lanes - an indispensable technology in the cold season!
