Rector Kieslich leaves Bildungsgut Schmochtitz: Farewell to Advent music!

Schmochtitz, Deutschland - Bautzen. An emotional farewell is imminent! On December 7, 2024 at 7.30 p.m., the Schmochttitz Sankt Benno educational estate will invite you to the Advent concert with the Dresden Kapellknaben. Under the direction of the cathedral bandmaster Christian J. Bonath, festive Advent songs and masterpieces will be heard by composers such as Johannes Eccard and Georg Friedrich Händel. From 6 p.m. there will be mulled wine and Christmas treats in front of the barn church - a perfect start for the contemplative time! Tickets are already available.

But the concert has a special meaning: Rector Sebastian Kieslich is officially adopted as part of this event. He leaves the educational estate at the end of the year and will also give up his position as head of Catholic adult education in Saxony on January 31, 2025. At his own request, he changes to the Caritas Association for Dresden, where he will take over the management together with Juliana Schneider. A new section for Kieslich who has shaped the educational good for years!

financial challenges

The educational center of the Diocese of Dresden-Meißen faces major changes. In order to avert a predicted balance sheet deficit of 17.5 million euros in 2026, the education company will be restructured. Catholic adult education Saxony will reorganize as a club and develop the educational offers for the entire diocese. This decision follows a strategy process that focuses on the financial challenges of the Catholic Church in Saxony and East Thuringia.

The Schmochtitz educational estate, which was opened in 1992 as a Bishop Benno-House, looks back on a long history. With 150 beds, spacious conference rooms and an idyllic park, it is a place of encounter and education. But times change, and those responsible must now take brave steps to secure the future of the house. A farewell that is not only personally, but also institutionally important!
