Winter service in Saxony-Anhalt: 28,000 tons of salt for safe roads!
Körbelitz, Deutschland - Magdeburg. The winter preparations in Saxony-Anhalt are in full swing! In the halls and silos of the 23 street masters, there are an impressive 28,000 tons of road salt and almost 2,400 tons of brine, ready to free the streets of snow and ice in an emergency. "Almost 800 emergency services and exactly 280 clearing and stray vehicles are ready," announced the Minister for Infrastructure and Digital, Dr. Lydia Hüskens, while visiting the Körbelitz street master's house.
Failing fences will be set up in the coming weeks, an important measure to improve road conditions. But the minister warns: "Despite all the precautions, it cannot be cleared and scattered everywhere." Especially in extreme weather conditions, the emergency services reach their limits. "Especially at night and in the early morning hours it is a hard job for the employees on the emergency vehicles," added Hüskens.
important appeals to the drivers
The minister urged the drivers to equip their vehicles in winter and to adapt their driving style to the conditions. "Understanding and mutual consideration are particularly important," says Hüskens. All road users should prepare for the fact that there can be temporary impairments in winter weather.
The road salt supply is secured by the regional proximity to the high -quality salt deposit in Bernburg, so that can be delivered quickly if necessary. In the past winter service period, an average of 4.1 tons of moisture salt per kilometer were used on the federal highways. In total, the country invested around 3.4 million euros in stress substances. Saxony-Anhalt is responsible for winter service on a road network of 10,392 kilometers, whereby the municipalities are responsible for the space of most district and municipal roads.
