Ukrainian specialists in Saxony-Anhalt: opportunities and challenges
in Saxony-Anhalt fight Ukrainian refugees for their professional future! Of the approximately 14,500 employable Ukrainians, only about 5,500 found a job. Shocking: 800 of them have to increase despite work, while 5,600 continue to attend language and integration courses. The hurdles are enormous, and the search for a suitable workplace is extremely complicated!
a ray of hope in the dark
Sergii Omelchuk, a 44-year-old accountant from Butscha, is lucky enough to have found a job at the theological university of Friedensau. But the shadows of his homeland load heavily on him. "Learning the language was and is very difficult for me," he admits. The war in Ukraine and the constant news about the suffering of its relatives make life in Germany an emotional roller coaster. "If you notice what is happening there, it's not nice," says Omelchuk and speaks from the soul of many of his compatriots.
The university quickly got involved to help the refugee. Tobias Koch, Chancellor of the University, reports: "When we heard that the attack on Butscha took place, we offered to help very quickly." Some refugees, including Omelchuk's family, found shelter on campus. Despite the support, the challenge remains great: Many highly qualified Ukrainians want to work in their learned profession, but the language barrier is often insurmountable. Omelchuk's wife, a primary school teacher, is faced with the choice of learning German or looking for another job.
The Situation is alarming! While the number of refugees Ukrainians is increasing, the question remains: How can you gain a foothold in Germany? The hope of a better future is overshadowed by the challenges of integration. Time is pushing and the Ukrainians are ready to work - but the conditions have to change!
