Römerberg awakens Lost Places to life - experience history digitally!
Römerberg, Deutschland - A fascinating project takes shape: in Römerberg the history of the "Lost Places" is digitally awakened! The municipality has successfully applied for the state project "Kuladig", which aims to include the digital recording and presentation of cultural landscapes in Rhineland-Palatinate. The municipal council has now provided 6,500 euros to create 20 informative signs that will tell the history of 14 selected locations. Mayor Matthias Hoffmann (Greens) announced that the country also provides the IT infrastructure for 50 years.
The project is implemented in close cooperation with the local and customs association as well as the University of Koblenz, which the project supervises on behalf of the state. Already in May, a university delegation visited the selected places in Römerberg to develop design suggestions. Students and employees are currently working on interviews with contemporary witnesses and edit historical film recordings to bring the stories alive. The digital reconstruction of the former malt factory in Berghausen, which once played a formative role in the region, is particularly exciting
digital reconstruction of the malt factory
The malt factory, on the site of which a retirement home is on, will be “resurrected” by a digital model. The idea is to reconstruct them in terms of scale so that visitors can look at them from a certain point "as looking out of the window". A possible location for this “shop window” could be the Weberplatz, where a parking lot would have to give way. First deputy Wilfried Röther (CDU) supports the project because it will also bring new citizens closer to the history of Römerberg.
The other “Lost Places”, which are part of the project, include the Gutleuthaus Speyer, the Aubacher Hof, the old school building in Berghausen and the Evangelical Church in Mechtersheim. This innovative project will not only preserve the history of the region, but also arouse interest in its cultural identity!
