The carnival time in Mainz faces an unexpected challenge! The preferred Bundestag election on February 23 falls in the middle of the Hochphase of the Fastnacht. This creates excitement among the carnival stars who are preparing for the celebrations, while at the same time the political waves hit up. Johannes Bersch, known as Moguntia, is forced to adapt his political lectures at lightning speed. "To this extent, this is new to me," he admits. The carnival clubs can breathe a sigh of relief! The city of Mainz has made it clear that the Fastnachter can keep their halls for the meetings, even if they normally serve as electoral offices. Ralf PeterHanwahr, press spokesman for the city, assures: "We don't want trouble with the carnival clubs." This means that the Bretzenheimers can hold their meetings in TSG Halle as planned, also on election day. The city will take care of alternative electoral offices, not to get in the way of the carnival stars.
