Discover the Museum University Krefeld: New program for students!

The Museum University again opens its goals for schoolchildren and offers an exciting new program that combines teaching issues with art. From now on, classes and courses from secondary schools in Krefeld can register for the five new events. This educational project is part of the cooperation between the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences and the Kunstmuseen Krefeld, and aims to bring the students closer to topics that go beyond the conventional curriculum.

"The Museum University is a wonderful opportunity for students, art and science to experience interactive ways," says Katia Baudin, the museum director. Here young people can not only be listeners, but also active participants. For each event, two to three classes can take part in one appointment, with the maximum number of participants being 55 people.

Start of the events

The first lecture will be held on Monday, November 18, by Professor Erik Schmid, the Dean of the Design Department. He will address why the interaction of feelings and thinking plays a major role in art. According to the lecture, the students have the opportunity to take part in a tour of some selected works of art in the current exhibition.

The events are intended for middle and upper level students (classes 7 to 13) and take place from 12 noon to 1.30 p.m. A special feature of the program is that participation for the students is free of charge, but prior registration is required. The interest was so great last year that the offer was fully booked, and it is expected that this will be the case again.

registration and information

To register for the Museums University, the website www.hsnr.de/museums-Uni and www.kunstmuseenkrefeld.de is available. Registration can be made directly at the service office of the art museums. Pupils and teachers can either do this by email to servicekunstmuseen@krefeld.de or by phone at 0 21 51/97 55 81 37

The end of the event will take place on February 24, 2025 with a lecture by Professor Michael Heber, who addresses the use of plastics in both art and industry. This interdisciplinary program shows how art and science can be harmoniously connected and provides exciting approaches for students.

The entire concept of the Museum University Krefeld not only offers a platform for artistic learning, but also a way to gain deeper insights into scientific questions, and is therefore an important expansion of school education in Krefeld.
