On Monday, November 10, 2025, the Düsseldorf fire department was called to a fire at a gas station on the Südring around 3:50 p.m. When the emergency services arrived at the Total gas station, significant smoke was already visible in the air. The fire broke out in the rear area of the gas station shop and threatened to spread to the roof structure.
The firefighters immediately initiated extinguishing measures and checked the heavily smoked sales area. During the operation, a male person was found in the fire area suffering from life-threatening injuries. An emergency doctor treated the person at the scene before he was transported to a hospital for further treatment. Emergency services also looked after three other people, but they did not have to go to hospital.
Operational details and traffic measures
It took the fire department about two and a half hours to extinguish the fire and investigate. Meanwhile, the Südring was initially closed in both directions, later the direction of Neuss was opened, while the direction of Merowinger/Kopernikusstrasse remained blocked. These measures led to significant traffic disruptions in the area.
In order to avoid additional dangers, employees of Netzgesellschaft Düsseldorf switched off the power to the area as a precautionary measure. The subsequent extinguishing work was time-consuming as hidden embers had to be discovered and extinguished.
Investigations and outlook
In the evening hours, the fire department routinely checked the source of the fire for any remaining embers. The criminal police have started investigating the exact cause of the fire in order to find possible clues as to how the fire started.
