The Olympic bell returns triumphantly after Notre-Dame!

One of the most important symbols of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, the big bell, is preparing to take its place in the iconic cathedral of Notre-Dame. This bell, which is provided with the emblem of the Olympic Games, is installed on the occasion of the reopening of the famous building, which was badly damaged by a devastating fire on April 15, 2019.

The announcement causes a stir, because the bell will not only announce the performance of the athletes, but also set a strong sign - a connection between the Olympic history and one of the most important religious monuments in France. The bell is soon installed in one of the towers from Notre-Dame, far from the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, but still in the heart of Paris.

A new chapter for the Olympic Games

With a weight of 500 kg, the bell made of bronze was cast by the renowned artisans of the Fonderie Cornille Havard, a studio based in Normandy since the 19th century. These masters of the craft are also the creative minds behind the restoration of eight other bells that were also affected by the devastating fire.

The bell had its first destination in the Stade de France, where she accompanied the performance of the athletes during the Olympic competitions. The French rugby star Antoine Dupont was the first to introduce this special custom when he let the bell ring for the medalists. Successful athletes such as the American Noah Lyles and the Swede Armand Duplantis also felt connected to the bell.

"As soon as I saw the bell, I wanted to ring it," said Lyles enthusiastically during the Olympic Games.

The bell is now not only one of the memories of the 2024 Olympics, but also becomes part of the story of Notre-Dame. The special moment of the installation is scheduled for December 8th, the day of the first fair after the cathedral was reopened. This integration measure underlines the desire to combine the Olympic thoughts and the cultural value of the location of the Mary.

The fact that the bell finds its place in Notre-Dame was not originally planned in the planning. The idea came up later to capture a historical moment and to preserve the Olympic spirit.
