The fraudsters are active! Last week, the Gifhorn police were reported to alarming fraud, which were uncovered by perfidious online banking methods. A 61-year-old man fell victim to a skillful telephone fraud on Monday. A caller who spent his bank employed warned him that a foreign smartphone wanted to gain illegitimate access to his online banking. To block access, the unsuspecting senior should enter a confirmation in his bank account. The man, convinced of the authenticity of the caller, did not suspect - until he was in horror on Wednesday that 2000 euros had disappeared from his account!
Another case occurred on Tuesday when an 80-year-old received an SMS that allegedly came from his house bank. This message warned that the push tan procedure would take place and that a link to extend was offered. The senior clicked on the link and was directed to a fake website on which he should enter his sensitive data. After the data transmission, an alleged bank employee reported again who spoke of a transfer error. The 80-year-old followed the instructions and gave his consent with a pushan-only later did he realize that he had been betrayed by 2600 euros. Fortunately, this money could be reclaimed, but the shock is deep!
The methods of fraudsters
These fraudsters are clever and well organized. They pretend to be bank employees and claim that immediate actions are required. Whether it is about changing passwords, comparing pins or updating access data - you always have a plan! The fraudsters even use Call-ID Spoofing , which means that the bank's number appears on the display. This tactic makes it difficult for the victims to recognize the fraud.
What can you do?
The police give important tips to protect themselves and not to fall into the trimmers' tribes:
- Never share personal or bank details on the phone and always have a healthy distrust.
- End the conversation immediately if there are any doubts and contact your bank directly.
- If you have become the victim of fraud, do not hesitate to file a complaint with the police.
