Santa Claus on his cell phone: media literacy for parents in Emsland!

Meppen. An exciting online event is just around the corner! Under the title “Dear good Santa Claus, ring me on my cell phone…” the Emsland district invites parents and legal guardians of children up to the age of six to find out about media use in the run-up to Christmas. On Wednesday, November 20th, from 8 p.m. to around 9:30 p.m., anyone interested can register for free and receive valuable tips on how they can make sense of their little ones' media consumption.

In a world where smartphones and tablets are ubiquitous, children in Germany grow up with a variety of media. But what is really age-appropriate? Dr. Iren Schulz, an experienced communications scientist and media educator, will address the crucial questions: Which media are suitable for preschool children? How can parents find a healthy balance between control and trust? And which Christmas wishes are realistic in this context? These and many other topics will be covered in the digital event to offer parents practical help for everyday life.

Important information about registration

Registration for the event is open until Monday, November 18th. Anyone interested can register with Dina Obodova at dina.obodova@emsland.de. The Emsland district is also planning further online information events in collaboration with the smiley association. The next event on the topic “WhatsApp, Instagram and TikTok: What does it concern us parents?” will take place on Thursday, November 28th, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Registrations for this can be made via Carolin Römer at carolin.roemer@emsland.de.
