Pharmacy protest in Lower Saxony: closures and rally in Hanover!
In a dramatic call to action, numerous pharmacies in Lower Saxony will remain closed all day today! The pharmacists' association is calling for a day of protest to draw attention to serious deficiencies in the supply of medicines. In Hanover there will be a central rally at the main train station at 1 p.m., which will not only attract pharmacists, but also prominent speakers, including the Lower Saxony Minister for Social Affairs, Labor, Health and Equality, Andreas Philippi (SPD).
Pharmacies are fighting against the threat of closure
The protest is directed against the pressing problems that are affecting the pharmacy landscape in Lower Saxony. A lack of staff and stagnating pharmacy fees are just the tip of the iceberg! There has been no increase in compensation for over ten years, and the federal government's cuts are endangering the health of the population. Berend Groeneveld, chairman of the State Pharmacists Association (LAV), emphasizes: “We need more money and less bureaucracy to make health care future-proof!”
The situation is made even more explosive by the federal government's plans to license pharmacies without qualified staff and to redistribute fees. According to LAV, this is leading to unprecedented pharmacy deaths and a deterioration in health care. “We cannot and will not allow this,” said Groeneveld. The pharmacies in Lower Saxony are today sending a strong signal against this development!
