Financial crisis in the Main-Kinzig district: District Administrator warns of dramatic consequences!
A financial disaster threatens in the Main-Kinzig district! District Administrator Thorsten Stolz, also financial director, sounds the alarm: Over 30 million euros are missing in the district budget for the coming year! The cause? Massive reductions in municipal financial equalization and the retention of federal funds for flight and asylum by the Hessian state government, which is led by the CDU and SPD. The situation proudly describes the situation as "dramatic" and wonders how this shortfall can ever be compensated for. "This is a real house number!" Said the district administrator.
Already in September proud had warned of "dark clouds from Wiesbaden". Now the fears have become a reality: The Main-Kinzig district will receive around 22 million euros less from the municipal financial equalization next year than planned. And it gets worse! For 2025, too, the country retains the promised federal money for the accommodation of asylum seekers. "This is a tremendous process," says proudly and sees a massive loss of trust between the municipal family and the country. This development could lead to drastic increases in the district levies and thus to tax increases on site.
The effects are devastating!
The financial bottlenecks are already forcing the district to drastic measures: budget equalization for 2024 was only possible through significant cuts and the inclusion of a bank loan for the Main-Kinzig-Kliniken. "We are at a point where the infrastructure is shut down," warns proudly. The citizens already clearly feel the consequences of this financial misery. The volunteer local politicians are not willing to continue to operate a defect management.
proudly appeals to the members of the state parliament and mayor to strongly campaign against the cuts and to request the transfer of federal funds. "The municipal level is treated once again like a supplicant," he criticizes. It is high time that the Hessian state government equips the municipalities as required in order to fulfill the mandatory tasks and also enable voluntary tasks. The future of the Main-Kinzig district is on the brink!
