Gütersloh: Property tax goes beyond all limits – citizens have to pay!
Gütersloh is experiencing a dramatic fall in the property tax ranking! In 2021, the city shone with an unbeatable assessment rate of just 381 percent, making it number one among the hundred largest cities in Germany. But times have changed dramatically: property taxes have risen to a shocking 606 percent, and Gütersloh falls to 63rd place! The annual cost of a typical single-family home has increased from €323 in 2021 to a staggering €513.
In the latest ranking, which was published just a few days ago, Regensburg took first place with its stable assessment rate of 395 percent. Gütersloh, on the other hand, is in line with 25 other cities that have increased their assessment rates since the last study. Only Duisburg has the courage to reduce property taxes! The average lifting rate is now 589 percent - an alarming increase of 25 percent compared to 2021. While Bielefeld remains unchanged and climbs to 74th place, Gütersloh remains on the losing side.
A look at the nationwide situation
In a nationwide comparison, Bavaria comes out on top, with an average annual property tax of just 419 euros. North Rhine-Westphalia, where Gütersloh is located, comes in 14th place, while Bremen and Berlin are even more expensive at 568 and 686 euros. The citizens of Gütersloh have to prepare for even higher burdens, because the property tax was only increased drastically this year and could rise to an alarming 695 percent by 2025! This reform will hit all property owners and tenants hard and will further burden the financial situation of many Gütersloh residents.
