In the night of a Saturday, several parking benches and trash cans were demolished, and a bird's showcase was also torn out of the anchorage. The property damage was estimated at over 5000 euros. This brutal violence against such a popular local recreation area has made the city on alert in order to ensure the safety and preservation of the park. Dr. Korell and the police are working to identify the polluters as quickly as possible due to information from the population to prevent future acts. According to media reports, the city called for the citizens to help the perpetrators accountable.

Both cases - the Bürgerpark in Kirn and the Schlosspark in Gersfeld - are exemplary for the increasing challenges that public parks in Germany have to master due to vandalism and social tensions. Those responsible are required to take preventive measures and to repair the affected areas again. While Kirn perceives a second chance for her park, it remains to be seen how Gersfeld will deal with the destruction and whether the merits of its citizens are able to remedy the damage.
