School feeding in Karstädt: New door for more security in November!
School feeding in the Karstädt primary school is closed for outsiders! For security and hygiene reasons, no more external guests are allowed to dine in the school kitchen. This drastic decision was announced by Christian Gadow, the building manager, in the social committee. The safety of the children is a top priority, and the current circumstances no longer allow this.
A explosive topic that has been on the agenda for a year is the defective outer door that enables access to school feeding. This door is finally being replaced by a new one to be installed in November. The costs of around 10,000 euros were planned in the 2024 budget. Gadow emphasizes that the new door ensures that access is only granted from the inside - a necessary step to ensure the safety of the students.
Fewer guests in school feeding
The school kitchen, operated by Monika Müller, has catered for up to 20 external guests a day in the past. But times have changed: currently only three people are eating on site. Müller reports that most former guests, including employees of local companies, are now delivered to the company directly. "The safety of the children is going on - no question," she explains and adds that the financial effort for the entertainment of outsiders is no longer wearable.
In order to meet the hygiene regulations, extensive renovation work would be necessary, including a separate entrance and sanitary facilities for external users. But this effort is not worth it for the few remaining guests, says Müller. The decision to close school feeding for outsiders is therefore not only a question of security, but also economy.
