Objections in Bürrig: Residents request clarification of authorities

Bürrig, Leverkusen, Deutschland - In Leverkusen, the anger of the residents is bubbling! Since the devastating explosion more than three years ago, confidence in the disposal center of Currenta in Bürrig has been shaken. Again and again the residents complain about unbearable smells that pull across their neighborhood. Benjamin Roth, a concerned resident, suspects that the cause of the special waste combustion can be found on the site. But despite his repeated inquiries from Currenta and the responsible authorities, the answer is missing - the Cologne district government seems to be idle.

stench and inactivity

Roth is frustrated! The district government, which is responsible for the supervision of the dangerous system, has not yet taken care of the odor nuisance. Roth even checked the Ministry of the Environment, but the answers are anything but helpful. The ministerial officer Michael Rottschäfer advised him to formulate his questions precisely and to send it to the district government again. A vicious circle that brings Roth to despair!

Now Roth pulls the emergency brake and has submitted a complaint against the district government to the environmental minister Oliver Krischer (Greens). The focus is on department 53, which is responsible for environmental protection. Roth demands answers to the pressing questions: Why is the problem of smells that have existed for almost two years not seriously examined? The responsibility between the authorities is currently being pushed back and forth, while the residents suffer from the stench.

a dangerous game

The situation is alarming! Roth points out that the district government is not only responsible for monitoring the Leverkusen accident systems, but must also provide permits for changes. After the deadly explosion, in which seven people died, it is all the more important that the supervision works. Roth is convinced: "It is about acute questions about one of the most dangerous systems in Europe." The inactivity of the authorities could have fatal consequences!
