High fog keeps Lake Constance under control - when does the sun come back?

People around Lake Constance moan over the cloudy, gray days that dominate the sky. Where have the golden rays of sunshine in autumn? Instead, dense clouds and high fogs hang over the region and let the mood drop. Meteorologist Roland Roth from the Süd Weatherwear in Bad Schussenried explains that this fog is not unusual, but is a typical phenomenon for the season. "It is not more foggy than usual," he says and calms the concerned citizens.

What is noticeable is the exceptionally long high-pressure phase, which is responsible for the ongoing fog formation. "Winter used to be a long time at this time," said Roth. The mild air caused by the high pressure area leaves the fog over the floor like a protective ceiling. However, one end of the cloudy days is in sight: As soon as a low pressure area absorbs and mixes the air again, the fog will quickly disappear.

Hoch fog: A constant companion

Hoch fog, which often covers large parts of the sky, can stop for days and ensures a diffuse, cloudy lighting. Unlike normal fog, which usually dissolves quickly, high fog can influence the entire daily mood and create an almost leading atmosphere. The view is greatly reduced and the landscape appears in a mysterious gray.

For the coming days, the weather conditions will remain similar. On Sunday, high fog is still expected, which could loosen up in the afternoon. The temperatures range between 8 and 14 degrees. The fog spreads again on Monday night. The next few days promise a mixture of fog and sun, whereby the maximum values can reach up to 17 degrees as soon as the fog dissolves.
