Alarm at the Haßfurt train station: indefinable smell triggers use!

smells are often a double -edged sword: they can cause beautiful memories or, as in the case on Wednesday morning at the Haßfurt train station, lead to uncomfortable situations. The Haßfurt volunteer fire brigade was alerted after an unknown fabric was perceived in the station hall. People had to be on alert due to a biting smell, and one person even complained of breathing difficulties.

at 10:15 a.m. the fire brigade was informed. The smell had been described as uncomfortable and indefinable, while the data subject had problems with breathing. Despite the fact that the fire brigade arrived at the scene, it was not immediately possible to determine the source of the smell. The first measures included the care of the person concerned until an ambulance arrived.

a mysterious smell and its research

When the fire brigade arrived at the train station, a group of breathing protection was immediately sent to assess the situation with a multi -gas measuring device. After a first outside check, the smell was also to be smelled outside the train station, which meant that the area around the train station had to be temporarily locked. The emergency services set up a security area before it came to the actual examination of the station building.

The measurements of the fire brigade showed no clear results, which indicated the need for additional expert aid. The specialist advisor for dangerous goods and an ABC miracle were requested in order to carry out a more precise analysis with specialized measuring devices and test tube sets.

acetic acid identified as culprit

Due to the expanded possibilities of the measurement, the special forces were finally able to find out that the fabric was acetic acid. A small spot on the floor turned out to be the source of the unpleasant smell. The fire brigade used chemical binders to safely remove the acetic acid. The building was then ventilated with high -performance fans to clean the air.

Although further measurements were made in the building, no other dangerous substances could be found, so that the operation successfully completed after around two hours and the station building could be handed over to the federal police. The fire brigade was on site with a considerable number of emergency services: the Sand fire brigade was present with two vehicles and eight people, while the Haßfurt fire department supported four vehicles and 20 emergency services. The federal police and the Bavarian Red Cross were also involved in the collection.

The Haßfurt fire brigade encourages the population to inform the fire brigade or other responsible authorities immediately in the event of unusual smells or similar incidents in order to ensure the greatest possible security.
