in Mannheim is an exciting weekend of adventure at the door, which is of great importance for the city center. On October 5th and 6th, this event should attract many visitors and thus strengthen Mannheim's role as a top center. Swen Rubel, Managing Director of the Nordbaden trade association, emphasized that almost every second visitor went to special events in the upper center, which underlines the importance of such occasions.

In the heart of the city, the market mile will enrich the weekend. The weekly market on Saturday on the marketplace and the autumn market on the Capuchin planks already started on Thursday, October 3, the core of the celebrations. The art market will be held on the Paradeplatz on Sunday, supplemented by a grocery store and the Dutch fabric market that takes the marketplace.

The history and meaning of the market mile

Christine Igel, the head of the market, recalled that without the market mile there would be no approval for a Sunday that was open to sale. This tradition goes back to 1994 and has been moving to the city center since then. In fact, the Sunday open is not only limited to one day, but extends over the entire weekend, which represents a positive development compared to the previous year.

organizer Lutz Pauels expects around 100,000 visitors to enliven the city center. Mannheim will be reminiscent of the awarding of the market rights in 1613, especially on Sunday. He announced that the variety of events, from music to the visual art, should create a festival of the senses.

new impulses for downtown

A new initiative, which is known under the name "Futuraum", ensures a breath of fresh air in the quality community: dealers on Fressgasse have teamed up for the first time to organize a free -ground festival. On Saturday and Sunday there will be gourmets that should attract visitors with a relaxed music and a festive atmosphere.

In addition, the "Passeggiata Italiana", an Italian promenade, will be launched that will connect Kunststrasse and Fressgasse. The German-Italian circle of friends of the Rhein-Neckar metropolitan region will support this event and bring a touch of Italian culture to the city center. This could possibly have an expansion for future markets in Mannheim, such as a French market in spring.

also Thorsten Riehle, the city's economic mayor, commented positively about the upcoming weekend and emphasized the advantages for trade, gastronomy and cultural offers. Nevertheless, he warned that not every adventure weekend inevitably has to take place on a Sunday what could affect the planning for future events.

The shops are open on Saturday, on Sunday the shops are open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
