ÖSV eagles storm to the top: Tschofenig wins in Garmisch!
On January 1st, 2025, the Austrian Ski Jumping Association experienced a remarkable day. Daniel Tschofenig celebrated his first victory for Austria since 2014 at the New Year's competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. With an impressive 141.5 meters he took the lead and left Gregor Deschwanden from Switzerland and third Michael Hayböck behind him. Despite a previous hill record of 145 meters, Hayböck was unable to hold his own and fell behind in the decisive round, while other jumpers such as Stefan Kraft, who finished in 14th place, were also able to improve. Now the 73rd Four Hills Tournament follows in Innsbruck, reports oe24.at.
Austria dominates in Trondheim
Not far from these successes, the Austrian ski jumpers also impressively attracted attention at the World Cup in Trondheim (Norway). There Tschofenig, Stefan Kraft, Jan Hörl and Daniel Huber achieved a historic triumph by taking the first four places. Michael Hayböck made it to sixth place. This was the first time since 1980 that Austria took the top four places in a World Cup. Coach Andreas Widhoelzl was overwhelmed by the strong performance and emphasized that it was the result of hard work in the summer fis-ski.com reported.
In addition, Stefan Kraft was able to shine again and achieve his 42nd World Cup victory, defending his overall lead in the World Cup with a 303 point lead over the Japanese Ryoyu Kobayashi. With only four competitions remaining, Kraft could win the overall World Cup at the next competition in Vikersund. It is clear that the Austrian jumpers are well prepared not only on the course but also with a view to the upcoming World Championships next year.
